Funfetti Ice Cream Bon Bons

Last summer I learned how to make ice cream bon bons. Not the fancy French kind, mind you, but the kind that kids love and are basically little bits of ice cream covered with chocolate and sprinkles. The best part is, they’re incredibly easy to make. You don’t need to buy any special equipment, or even make the ice cream from scratch!

I know these aren’t the fanciest looking ice cream treats, but that doesn’t matter. They are delicious bites of funfetti ice cream covered in a chocolate shell — like your favorite cake in ice cream form!

Funfetti Bon Bons

Makes: 3 dozen

Ingredients

  • 1 gallon vanilla ice cream
  • 2 cups funfetti cake mix
  • 2 cups chocolate magic shell topping (not chocolate syrup)
  • Sprinkles

Directions

Allow the ice cream to melt in the container about halfway, so you can stir it with some effort. Then, stir in the funfetti mix until completely incorporated.

Spread the ice cream into a 7 x 11″ baking dish that has been lined with plastic wrap. Make sure the top is spread flat. Cover the dish with plastic, place it in the freezer, and chill until hard.

Pour the magic shell into a bowl. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and set it next to the sauce.
Remove the ice cream dish from the freezer. Use a knife to carefully cut the ice cream into cubes, about 1 inch in size.
Use a toothpick or skewer to quickly dip and coat the ice cream in the magic shell. Then place it on the lined sheet. Repeat with remaining cubes. (Don’t worry if the magic shell gets a little lumpy. They’re going to taste amazing!)

Top the cubes with more sprinkles and slide into the freezer to harden again.
Once the cubes are hard, remove them and enjoy!
